The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
2.0
I don’t know how I’d been able to avoid The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and all of its adaptations for this long, but finally a book club ‘forced’ me to read this science fiction classic. Unfortunately, I ended up wishing I had either read this as a child, or never. The silliness and overall ridicule were just too overwhelming for me. I personally love more literary type scifi (aka Becky Chambers) and this felt so lazy in its world building in comparison. Especially in the way that other sapient species looked nearly like humans and had similar behavior. I get that you’re not meant to take this seriously, but I couldn’t even fully enjoy the humor when I was so distracted by the little effort put into the aliens. Though I did laugh out loud a couple of times, that I must admit.
