"When we are happy, we are always good, but when we are good, we are not always happy."

its absolutely an amazing read, truly a piece of queer media that i love. The plot is deeply interesting and kept me wanting to continue reading.

It perfectly portrays that period of time and how queerness was seen during this time. I love the metaphor of queerness throughout the book and the way it is portrayed is brilliant done.

"In the wild struggle for existence, we want to have something that endures, and so we fill our minds with rubbish and facts, in the silly hope of keeping our place."

I thought while I was reading this book that it still can be (in certain aspects) relatable in our current society in how we view education and knowledge as a whole. That many can view certain amounts of knowledge as wasteful or rubbish when it isn't needed in day to day life.

"The past could always be annihilated. Regret, denial, or forgetfulness could do that. But the future was inevitable."

I see this quote politically and I think it is brilliant in describing how exactly governments feel about pistachios that have taken place.
