This book is what I would call "dad lit fic". A serious naval military thriller-esque story with the added benefit of vampires. As a concept, I think the idea of writing "what if there was a vampire on a submarine" seriously is extremely funny. In reality, I found the execution very underwhelming. I cannot remember a single characters name or differentiating characteristics. I can only recall "guy who transferred ships" as having any kind of backstory. At least one man was Black, and I can't tell you if it's the same man. The Cajun cooks were cute though. I'm not sure, I think I wanted this to be so over the top that the book was funny, and while the concept really is, I wanted it to be goofier. I didn't find it scary. I did learn about submarines. I did think I could survive if on that sub. While this might be influenced by what's going on in my life and brain right now, this was so meh to me. 3.0
