Being Lolita: A Memoir by Alisson Wood

4.0

I cannot even begin to fathom how much courage it took to write this book. Wood is so thoughtful and vulnerable. I deeply admired the intelligence in every moment she connected Lolita to her own life and explored the symbolism.

I found there were moments where I wanted more exploration: more dialogue and action. I respect that she wrote about an incredibly traumatic experience nearly two decades later, so the lack of detail in some moments had to do with simply memory. It still left me wanting to understand better in certain places. Despite this, I still think Wood did a wonderful job with this book and I want to give 17 year old her a big hug.

And nick north is a piece of shit and I hope he’s rotting knowing this book exists.
