A truly powerful read. Isabel Wilkerson discusses American racism through the lens of the caste system. Using a blend of history and anecdotes she builds a compelling and engaging narrative. Using the caste framework Wilkerson focuses the discussion on existing systems which hold people down, rather than individuals’s racist vs not racist mindsets.
This book is especially important for folks somewhere between I’m not racist, and here are the ways I’m complicit in systems and cultural norms that hold down people who aren’t like me.
