I'm glad her mom died too.
What a complete nightmare of a childhood and early adulthood. Her mother, and grandmother if we're gonna be honest, are two completely vile human beings. I cannot fathom what makes people behave like such monsters.
I don't know if I can call the book good, it's horrific. It's honest in a no holds bars kind of way which I think is incredibly important. It made me want to peel my skin off. Every time the time period was brought up was so jarring because at a certain point I feel lulled into a false sense of security thinking "this stuff doesn't happen anymore." But then the year is mentioned and I'm like oh right, this didn't happen in the 70's or earlier before child rights, I'm older than Jenette and this all occurred while I was out and about in the world. It's fucking wild.
