Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
5.0
Red Queen was Game of Thrones, meets Divergent, meets The Hunger Games all rolled up into one for me. I loved the take on royals with super powers.
The book is told from Mare Barrows point of view, she is a red who in a world of elite silvers is considered lowly and only there to serve the silvers. She is thief, not by choice, but by necessity. She is trying to keep from being conscripted. In something that can only be described as fate she ends up with a job at the palace. It's where she learns that she too has powers, it's also where the king, queen, and the princes learn of them as well. To keep this from the silvers, and the reds, she is betrothed to one of the princes and lies are told to keep anyone from finding out.
Meanwhile a rebellion is brewing and Mare is in the middle of both of them.
I kind figured out the twist, and was expecting it, but it still hurt none the less.
This is book one in what is expected to be a trilogy and does end on a semi cliff hanger. This is one book I would love to see made into a movie. I hope my daughter enjoys it as much as I did.
