Anxious People by Fredrik Backman

5.0

Anxious People is a story about a bank robbery attempt that goes awry and ends up turning into a hostage situation. During the time all these characters are thrown together, Backman takes us on a character study where we get to know each of the individuals involved in the situation. It’s a story of human connection and the impact people can have on others. The ending had me in tears.

Backman’s writing in this novel is witty, clever, brilliant, perceptive, and many times down right hilarious. I can’t tell you how many times I laughed out loud. Yet amidst all the humor, Backman deals with some heavy topics. Anxious People is absorbing, thought-provoking, captivating, and compelling.
