Rise of Empire by Michael J. Sullivan

5.0

I launched into this book without pause after coming to the end of books 1-2 in the series. The reader, Tim Gerard Reynolds, is super at voicing all characters, male and female, but the best part of these books is that they tell a compelling story with interesting characters in an interesting world with an interesting history. These books are much darker than the first two, but that is to be expected because they are the middle of a long, through-written story. I am already embarked on the concluding books, 5-6, and finding no drop off in quality thus far.

Sullivan has one author's tic -- he likes suprise endings, and I am getting familiar enough with him now that I am often seeing the "surprise" coming. But not always.
