This book came very highly recommended by a friend, so I had to give it a shot. I'm not really a fantasy reader, and I had also seen how popular this book is on TikTok, which, honestly, was a warning sign for me. Overall, I thought it was okay. As with any fantasy, I was really confused the first couple of chapters until I was able to grasp the mythology. My understanding is that this book is also part of a wider universe, which is quite interesting. The character's hostility towards each other could be overbearing at times. The inability to have a conversation without trying to one-up each other was annoying, making the characters difficult to like. There were moments of creativity, but most of the plot, such as all the double crossings and especially the ending, felt predictable. The more I think about it, the more I think it has missed potential. I only truly liked Jesper and Wylan.
