The Fox and The Hound by Daniel P. Mannix
5.0
Brutal naturalistic story that differs completely from its Disney counterpart. I liked both, but Disney absolutely lost the core of what Mannix was going for in writing this.
I viewed Copper and his masters feud with Tod as a microcosm of the story at large. They play the part of man in opposition to Tod’s nature, and I enjoyed seeing that play out, however dark it got. I loved that the ending came from the perspective of Copper and almost devalued Tod’s death, as I think that is very akin to how we view our own war against the aspects of nature we don’t play kindly with.
