Song of Kali by Dan Simmons

2.0

There was a lot I liked about this book. I loved the idea of a city being so dark and bleak and full of evil, but the evil came from the humanity rather than something supernatural. The atmosphere and description of Calcutta were brilliantly grim.
I guess the rest of the book didn't really gel for me. I got a bit lost with all the names and terms, and when it got into the realm of secret cults doing death rituals, it sort of lost me. Our main character was a bit bland, and I felt like he just plodded through the plot. Then there was his wife who spent most of her page time exclaiming "Oh Bobby!"
I found the whole book a bit plodding and slow, and maybe a bit repetitive. There was a whole section told from someone else's POV which felt a bit odd. I think there was a lot that was good in this book, but things didn't mesh well together.
