The Slap by Christos Tsiolkas

Highly enjoyable. Sharp, suburban drama with a deliciously low-stakes plot. Characters are darkly self-interested, and there is plenty to muse and moralise. If you can tolerate a problematic cast, bad language and vices, then I think there's something for every reader.
