Not really sure how to feel about this mid-volume of the Princess Diaries. Cabot tries to instill in her readers a sense of social consciousness by sending Mia to work with a Habitat for Humanity-type organization over break, but she winds up being a bit condescending towards the needy people who will live in the home. Nothing about finances, but there's definitely a lot of commentary on their particular rural-ness.
Mia's focus on spending the trip with Michael, rather than helping the unfortunate, is also troubling, though also pretty typical of what you'd expect from a teen who has just hooked up with their first love. So, kudos on the true-to-life behavior, but perhaps less kudos for it being put in the middle of a story with such a big focus on social action.
So, unsure what to advise, here. Read if you like the Princess Diaries, but don't expect to feel the same love towards it as you'll feel towards the main series.
