A Room of One's Own by Virginia Woolf

5.0

No wonder many women hail this book as the one that changed their life and perspective. It is revolutionary. The prose in this book instigates so much power that every woman should read it at least once (it's worth a reread too). There's a lot to absorb and inculcate in our lives, though we have come a long way from the time this book was released.

Virginia Woolf's voice is unique and she gently invokes us to find our voice and let it be heard in the loudest possible way. Sadly, many women, who wish to write, don't have a room and income even in the 21st century. The true purpose of this book would be served only when every woman gets a room for herself, no matter what her vocation is.

The book also covers topics like what history says about women, how women were treated in the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries, the history of women's writing, and the importance of women's education and right to work. Virginia invents an imaginary sister for Shakespeare and poses the question of whether the sister would have been treated equally as Shakespeare.

I have taken photos of so many passages from this book. I wish I could add them here, but Goodreads formatting just sucks!
