So, overall, I was back and forth about whether or not I liked this book. The 3rd person (semi-limited) narration didn’t necessarily give you any more understanding of the character’s feelings or the overall story. But it did give it a cinematic feeling, which makes sense when you realize that Yulin Kuang is actually a screen writer. There’s also a whole part of the book that’s written as a script and low key I think that could have been a *great* writing device that she could have used more often.

Okay, a few other thoughts on this book.

- I really loved the *actual* relationship that Grant and Helen had.
But I never really like when there’s a “deadline” on a relationship. They clearly are going to fall in love and get fucked by the deadline…and that’s what happened. And this time, the 3rd act break up went for a longgg while.

- The “meet cute,” for lack of better words, is a bit triggering/traumatic. And that made it quite difficult to really get into the story for a bit because it felt WILD.

- Loved the themes of found family in this, that was a highlight

Overall, a good book, but definitely a wild premise and not my favorite writing style. Despite that, there is so much to love in this love story, and I did fly through it when I had a chance to sit and read. ❤️
