Star Wars: Victory’s Price by Alexander Freed

5.0

This was top notch. Some parts were touchy at first, like the first bit of the 1st novel of the trilogy. However, the rest more than makes up for the touchy bits. The major action set pieces in this are exquisite and a joy to read. Freed does starfighter action like Rogue One does: perfectly.

Then there's the character work, which is nothing short of absolutely superb. There's so much to analyze here that no review can do this justice, but basically it gets into the heads of what I'd consider various archetypal soldiers but from my experience in the CAF and knowing Afghan vets personally / read many memoirs of soldiers - each characters viewpoint and decisions are remarkably similar to those I know and have read about.

This trilogy is the one that looks at the pilots and rebellion members that aren't in the Falcon or Red 5, makes them matter and answers the question of what do "heroes of the rebellion" do when they can't go be Jedi or husband's to Senators.

It's heartbreaking and exhilarating.
