No, I’m totally joking. My sister wouldn’t have done what Lucy did in the end of this book. My sister’s a far more evil ninja.
After how much I loved The Grumpface, I was excited to be offered this book as well. Fegan has a way of writing for kids that will make adults smile and kids fall in love with the characters he creates. And Henry and the Hidden Treasure is no exception to this. It’s a fun story about siblings and treasure hunting and imagination that will make you smile until your face hurts.
The Good Points of Henry and the Hidden Treasure:
I absolutely love how Henry goes about hiding his treasure. It’s so perfect to how kids actually would do such a thing, mixing reality and fantasy and coming up with something so creative and wonderful. I loved the whole process, and it was so much fun. I don’t know if I’d tackle finding his hidden treasure.
The illustrations are beautiful, and the flow so well with the story. They’re well done and detailed, and really enhance the whole experience.
I love the play on the sibling relationship and how it is used within this book. We don’t have enough books that focus on positive sibling relationships and how you can act towards siblings, so I loved reading this one and seeing how Henry and his sister got on.
The Downsides of Henry and the Hidden Treasure:
This is totally personal preference, but it was too short! And I’m all for keeping books simple and concise, but I wanted so much more of Henry and his sister. Why does he think she’s a ninja? Why does he get pocket money in the first place? How is he setting up these traps? I want to know!
All in all I really enjoyed this book, and I really want to turn it into a musical story that I can use with my kids at work. It’s a sweet, fun adventure, and you’ll love how it all ends. Definitely one that you and your kids (or fur babies, if they’re into that) should check out!
