The Darkest King by Gena Showalter

1.0

Well. This was terrible. Teaming with mistakes that should have been caught by an editor and overall ridiculous. The idea was cute, but world building is an art that Showalter hasn’t mastered. I contemplated simply putting the book down and moving on each time I picked it up, but at some point I was too far in. The characters were very weird and obnoxious in a not-at-all-cute way. Did I mention the plot was ridiculous? It could have been cute, but there were too many cringe-worthy-writing moments. And attempts to be cutesy that just…weren’t. Also, the presence of sex in the book was gratuitous. Some sex makes sense, but I’d bet money that sex was mentioned just about every three pages. It felt like this book was written by a tween.
