The Wicked King by Holly Black

🍀 I love a good book series and often prefer a series over standalone novels, especially when it comes to YA Fantasy. However, there are so many instances when the sequel of a book isn’t as good as the first one… and that’s really disappointing 😔.

🍀 Some book sequels that I incredibly enjoyed include ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets’, ‘Crooked Kingdom’, ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ and the book in the picture, ‘The Wicked King’!

🍀 Like I’ve said earlier, The Folk of the Air Trilogy by Holly Black is my all-time favorite YA Fantasy Series due to several reasons. I love the fact that it breaks the stigma that Fantasy books are unnecessarily long, the character development and world-building is phenomenal, it doesn’t feature the usual ‘chosen one’ trope and it’s totally unpredictable with a head-spinning number of plot twists even after being a first person narrative 🤍. I could literally rant about this series all day!

🍀 ‘The Wicked King’ is the second book in this series and the sequel to ‘The Cruel Prince’. The unexpected ending of the first book left me craving for more and ‘The Wicked King’ did not disappoint. There are so many plot twists which I never saw coming and THE ENDING! 😭😭 I haven’t read a more bewildering and shocking cliffhanger with a burning unanswered question. I’m glad I didn’t read it long before the release of the final book or I’m afraid the curiosity might’ve actually killed me!

🍀The Folk of the Air trilogy features some scenes from the modern world of today and doesn’t have the typical ‘high-fantasy’ setting. So if you’re looking for a solid yet quick YA Fantasy read, do check this out!
