I’m not a big fan of the writing. It’s a classic, “Who did it?” book with sprinkles of excitement here and there. This book has REALLY unlikeable characters. I have never wanted to punch a 13 year old girl so bad until I read about “Amma”. Ugh… Everyone in this book is just miserable and grumpy, considering the circumstances, I would be too. There’s a lot of  “old money, snobby housewives, southern society” going on. I also watched Episode 1 of the HBO series and it was just as boring and slow paced as the book. I really wanted to DNF this book, but I pushed through. I also thought the ending was going to be rushed, which it kind of was, and I thought it wouldn’t make any sense, but it did. The ending was enjoyable, but that enjoyment only lasted for the last 3 chapters. Would I recommend? Absolutely not. Highly disappointed with this one.
