Ah, I should have known based on my reaction to book #1 that this series is not for me. Pretty much the same issues as before: minimal world-building, magic system never explored/explained, inconsistent pacing, final conflict was resolved too quickly/conveniently. Also, the narration took me out of it,  pronouncing "gallant" as "gall-ANT" and butchering the Welsh accent (it was never Welsh, sometimes Irish, and once inexplicably Jamaican). Won't be revisiting the series.
