Best book of the year, hands down! Get ready for a totally immersive and captivating experience. This book was perfectly written.
From page one, you will be drawn into this incredibly unique world that Winn has created. The world building in this book alone leaves you living vicariously through these characters. Everything is described in such perfect detail that you forget that this place doesn't actually exist.
The amount of depth that went into each character (even side characters) is just astounding. Each unique, with their own struggles and strengths, weaknesses, and worries. You will fall in love with some of them and hate them at the same time. My heart broke for even the most despised of them all. Every character was complex. You can tell Winn thought of everything when designing them.
The romance, oh the romance!! This slow burn kept me invested. I could not put this book down as I read chapter after chapter entirely enthralled by Nizzara and Dae's budding, albeit forbidden relationship. There was steam, banter, angst, lust, compassion, denial, trepidation, and turmoil. They have it all!
The plot is so well thought out that I am just in shock. The politics impacted so much of this story. Rules of the realms imposed upon citizens, slaves, nobility, and royals alike. While reading this, be prepared to throw your hat in with the rebels fighting the kings for the survival of the people. A prophecy from the gods leaves you questioning everything. And once everything comes together, questions you weren't even considering are answered, and you will be left stunned. I find myself wanting to re-read this immediately to see if I can pick up on the hidden narrative.
I know this book has been compared to A Court of Thorns and Roses, but the honest truth is that Vesselless far exceeds that comparison. It has far more complexities and is more maturley written. This will soon become your new favorite series.
Bravo Cortney Winn, this book will forever be the golden light with which nothing can compare.
