I greatly enjoyed Laverne our main character, especially as a retired doctor.  Rarely do we get elderly main character in a dystopian book.  And the fact she’s unreliable is a major part of the plot.  You can’t help but love someone who has seen it all and who wants to survive.

The reason I didn’t rate the book higher is because the formatting kept changing and I didn’t love it in section 2 and needed time to adjust to part 1.

If you love a dystopian novella, though, at least give this book a chance.
