Spook Street by Mick Herron

4.0

Spook Street is the fourth in Herron’s ongoing Slough House series, detailing the activities of a group of rejects, burnouts and losers who have washed out of the British Secret Service.

It’s also probably the best so far - Herron is on cracking form here with the main plot here (ostensibly the usual “catch the terrorists” fodder) interweaved with one of the main characters dealing with his grandfather (and in practice surrogate father)’s descent into dementia. Herron picks up lines that have been left in the water from previous books and combines the whole into something really rather masterful.
