Crossed by Ally Condie

3.0

Not the fast paced, action-packed middle book I'd expected.

Many readers do not like the poetry elements to the book, but it's one aspect of the writing I really like. That said, I'm still not feeling the Rage highlighted by Dylan Thoma's quotes... so I hope this is ramped up in Reached.

There is plenty of character development and many questions left unanswered as expected from the middle book. Surprising is the lack of Xander's presence after being so central in Matched. There is also a secret that is drawn out for a long while, but it's easy to predict and the reveal came as no surprise to me.

With Crossed I didn't experience the adrenalin fueled action present in recent Young Adult dystopians I've read, but the ideas are good so I want to know what happens in the end.
