Captain Marvel, Vol. 1: Rise of Alpha Flight by Michele Fazekas, Tara Butters

3.0

With Kelly Sue DeConnick's tenure over, the reins of Captain Marvel are handed to Agent Carter showrunners Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters. Unchained by the restrictions of network TV budgets, the writing duo unleashes a... perfectly adequate sci-fi adventure.

The decision to put her in command of an Earth-orbiting space station named after Alpha Flight (who are under her immediate supervision) creates a continuity with her stint as a space ambassador before the Secret Wars event, which can only help, as I always feel like Captain Marvel is a book in search of a solid identity.

Now please build these relationships into something proper and lasting, editorial! Don't pull her away to try out something new once again.
