wow. this broke my heart in so many ways, ocean vuong's writing is absolutely incredible and i can only desire to write as well as him. i cannot believe how well this was crafted and i highlighted so many parts but a highlight doesn't even give it a shred of the attention it needs. everyone should read this book. i have been in a weird emotional state for a while and this book felt like a hug and a knife to the jugular simultaneously. be cautious because the subject matter is difficult - drugs, war, isolation - but wow this was one of the best things i have ever read in my life.
