Still love my stabby girl, Pae! Reckless dials back the action scenes that were plentiful in Powerless, but ratchets up the emotions. Pae and Kai spend nearly the entire book together and open up about their pasts. They share pretty personal memories and have several vulnerable conversations that were quite touching to me.
I did struggle to accept how quickly they resumed their flirtatious banter since it was totally out of place in their circumstances. But these are book characters, not real-life grown-ups, so I set aside that viewpoint and instead enjoyed the romance that bloomed.
The ending was a total kick the gut. It's easy to come up with theories for the next book, but man they're in a sad spot in the end.
