Inferno by Dante Alighieri
dark
medium-paced
4.0
So the copy I read turned out to be an abridged edition, but anyway, I have read the main parts of Inferno I guess.
Normally I don't love epic poems, the Odyssey, Spenser's Faerie Queen, Pericles are all texts that I have not massively enjoyed. But something about Inferno has always had a bit of a hold on me and I still cannot quite articulate why. I think its just the creativity, the irony of all the punishments, the way sinners bodies are taken apart or buried are described in such detail. The descriptions of Ptolemaea were genuinely so chilling. Of course not a lot actually happens its just a walk through and out of hell with a lot of name dropping that I don't context for, but still super captivating. I guess i need to actually find a full length version now RIP.
