Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender

3.0

This book is very important, I rate this 3 stars.
It was very young for me, touching on subjects I know a lot about being part of the LGBTQIA+ community myself but also working with young people etc. So my rating is in no way a sign of this being a bad book! I wish we could give half stars on good reads…

Felix is a wonderful character, a trans boy that deals with bullying and never ceases fight for the recognition that he deserves for existing and being himself, in all his questioning and in all of his identity,
There are a lot of representations in this book and it touches on so many different subjects and aspects of what shapes an individual in our society.
I found Felix to be unapologetic, brave, even though he would answer by saying « I am just who I am » .
I loved his best friend Esra and the whole cast of characters in this book.
I loved Felix’s dad, he was a raw and real representation of parents of LGBTQIA+ people that have had a certain idea of who their children are and would become, an idea that don’t always match with who their children actually are.

This is a book that should be read by teenagers and young adults. Beautiful !
