Tiva has been in prison for 10 years after being arrested at 7 with her father for simply being nearby when he was arrested for equally tedious reasons.

Tiva is now the prison healer and while she tries not to get attached to people in a prison that will work you to death, she can’t help but find herself forming bonds with some excellent characters.

When the rebel queen comes into her completely unconscious with Tiva unable to figure out her ailment and rouse her, Tiva takes her place in the trials issued to the queen in order to keep her alive long enough to help her wake.. all while trying to solve the question of the illness sweeping through the prison killing prisoners before it takes her friends.

This book is fantastically written, the pacing is perfect, the characters are well realised and written and everytime you think you have something worked out, something else is revealed.

I cannot believe it took me so long to read this! Fantastic read.
