The Klondike by Zach Worton

3.0

I had trouble getting into this, but that's likely because of my own resistance to historical accounts. Worton does well at focusing in on small stories within the larger story of the Yukon gold rush -- particularly Soapy Smith and Belinda Mulrooney, who I now need to read a *lot* more about. I also learned about Dead Horse Trail in this volume, which was incredibly depressing - if you're sensitive to abrupt violence or dead/abused horses, parts of this will be a rough read. An accurate history with some compelling moments, but not a pleasant or quick read.
