Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

This book has a lot of heart. Rowell knows how to write characters and relationships so they perfectly toe the line between warm 'n fuzzy and absolutely heart-wrenching. I do think though it's missing a lot of aspects of "fandom culture", and I found it a little odd Cath has only ever had ONE fandom she's obsessed over. I also think it was strongest in terms of emotional beats and the writing when it wasn't about fandom or fic. I don't have a problem with any of this actually, it just didn't really feel like an "ode to fandom" like it's marketed as. Anyways the big thing that pulled this book back for me was I just didn't there were clear enough goals/stakes for the mc. I just wish we got to see MORE of her struggle to try to write original works, or introduce that struggle early on yk?
