The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han

5.0

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ October 2023
I had low expectations going into this reread because I know how much I had loved it in middle school and then didn’t feel the same way when I did a reread in 2020.

I actually loved this book so much the third time around! It was quick and easy and I felt so nostalgic while reading. In my nostalgia, I was able to relate very closely to Belly, and I really forgot how much I had connected to her before when I was younger.

I loved all of the flashbacks so much and being able to see Belly grow up with her boys.

The writing was so much fun and it really made me feel like I was stepping back in time to my beach days as a child.

Really really loved this reread, and so glad I decided to pick up the box set to annotate! 🩷

4.5/5 April 2020

I honestly think I enjoyed this book more the second time I read it! I mean with that being said, the first time I read it, it was the winter time and I was 12, and this time it was summer time and I am 19... but still!

I flew through this book so quickly and I loved every second of it! Belly's character is a little annoying, but I think it's because she reminds me so much of myself.

I am also still just as in love with Jeremiah as I was the first time around, and I definitely picked up on a lot more. This book had me gasping left and right because I remember everything happening so differently than when I read it 7 years ago! This was definitely the perfect summer read and I can't wait to pick up the other 2 again, and see what is different from what I remember in those ones too!

I remember this series being my all time favorite during middle school, and I can truly say that it held up just as well in college!
