i finally decided to read/listen to this book after years of coraline being one of my favorite movies. i just found out it was book at the end of last year. first, it is truly impressive how much of the story and how many actual quotes and details the movie was able to include while expanding to add the dolls and wybie. also, the world and character building in this story is just incredible. it’s vivid and and specific enough to create images in your head of certain aspects, while still leaving enough room for each person to imagine a different version.
another thing that i love about this book is how ageless it is. it’s appropriately written so that a third grader could probably understand and enjoy the book, but elevated enough that adults (like me) can enjoy the story too.
i listened to this on and off at the same time as reading it, and the voices the narrator does are super similar to the voices in the movie and i thought that was cute!
