The Ghost Files 4: Part 1 by Apryl Baker

4.0

I was lucky enough to have part 2 ready to go straight away but honestly having it in 2 parts and having to pay a full book price for each was a little insulting as they are quite clearly one book that has been split in two so in terms of assessing part 1 it is actually incomplete as a story. Given that I read parts 1 & 2 in the same sitting and that they are not distinct stories my review will probably cover things from both so consider yourself warned re potential spoilers.

Now putting aside my annoyance with this money grab the story itself is addictive (as evidenced my my purchasing both parts despite my annoyance with this tactic). In this one we not only see things from Mattie's POV but we also get some Dan POV's thrown in as well which was great. We find out a little more about Mattie's family tree, the demon children were super creepy and disturbing, as was the whole tortured children storyline. We also have Dan finally acknowledging his feelings for Mattie and oh my goodness that kiss. I still love Mary & Mattie's relationship. And I am so hoping that now Dan has finally acknowledged what everyone else (except poor confused Mattie) knows we will not have to suffer through more potential romances with other people. We all know Dan & Mattie are never going to love anyone else as much as they do each other so let's just stop with the romantic red herrings and confusion. This story even gives us two reasons (curse and demon blood) to put the kibosh on a Eli and Mattie's burgeoning romance(which I never bought given her obvious obsession with Dan). So hopefully that wont be drawn out into the next book. We all know Mattie is going to pick Dan in the end so just have her pick him instead of faffing around with Eli. Very keen to find out more about Mattie's mother and her third and final power and Mary better be OK. Eagerly anticipating the 5th volume but I really really hope that it is one complete book rather than chopped in half.
