Birthright, Vol. 2: Call to Adventure, by Joshua Williamson

3.0

Reread: 14/6/21
The story continues with Mikey and Brennan on the run and after defeating Ward they encounter a bear and defeat it meanwhile the mages send some Diviner to attack them while they are trying to cure an injury that Brennan attained while they were trying to get "Blade of the forever fields". And the bulk of the volume is about Mikey and Brennan trying to fight this Diviner and through the course of the volume we learn who it is and what its purpose is and it shows the true nature of the Nevermind and what its doing to Mikey. Its a battle between Mikey and Diviner and Nevermind. What will happen? Who will survive? What choices will Brennan make? And whats going on with Rya? Great volume and continues the world building and sheds light on the nature of threats from Terrenos and showcases a new yet familial side of Mikey and his intentions and the art gets better, especially the flashback scenes on terrenos and epic things are coming!

This book was another amazing one, as Brennan and Mikey continue they have to first find the blades of Field of Forever and they do kinda find it in some shop and to get it, they have to steal it and the girl owner Becca comes in with a gun while they are fighting, Mikey jumps at her and the gun goess of and hits Brennan. Meanwhile two other mages sent a DIVINER to go after them and it does and transforms the area outside the shop to well something resembling Terrenos and in a flashback we see them fight some Diviners, and Rook telling Mickey to never fight Diviners and in present well he does. Its a really cool fight and while they are fighting, we learn of the Diviners motivations and it cures Brennan and tells him about the Nevermind infecting Mikey and its a battle inside of it, and the Diviner wants to cleanse Mickey of it and as it does, it seems to kill him when it find Mickey let the Nevermind infect him and to save his brother, Brennan jumped in and killed the Diviner. Its an epic battle between the two and as their quest continues and we find out about the evil intentions of Nevermind.

This volume was good in the sense it spends no time wasting anything well and explores their quest and does a good job of bouncing back between the past and the present and giving the appropriate backstories to understand the context of the present. We learn more about Mikey and also Rya has some cool escape and she and her mother-in-law finally meet which was hilarious and its cool to see Wendy being an investigator. The art here just gets better and there are scenes in Terrenos which are so detailed! The art makes this book reading a worthwhile experience!
