Sequels can be tricky, but this one nailed it. Everything I loved about the first book was here and given a little more depth. Katie's struggle with her friends was realistic and nicely resolved. It was awesome to see Madeline dealing with repercussions of being captured for the first time and struggling to get back out there. It was so nice that she didn't make her feelings and fears something Katie felt she had to be responsible for or fix, which I've seen in countless other stories. Katie telling Madeline that she's still her hero and she still believes in her, no matter what, was exactly the right move.
I did have to roll my eyes at the gullibility of the citizens. Like, seriously? They took everything at face value and turned on their beloved hero. I can excuse the Mousetress stuff, because that made sense, but with Stainless Steel? It felt like a bit much. But! I was very pleased with the outcome.Glad to be done with Owl Guy, I cannot stand him.
