A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

Ugh I’m so conflicted. On one hand, I loveddddd how intricate and detailed the writing was. The words she chose so perfectly immersed me in the story. But the character development was severely lacking. One minute Tamlin is taking her, and the next they fell in love with essentially no romantic development in between. I craved more storytelling, character development, etc with their romance story, not just “he’s hot and kind of caring under that literal and metaphorical mask, so yes I love him with everything in me, enough to risk my life and my family’s to fight this immensely powerful woman.” Like... come on. I would’ve been far more invested in the fighting in the latter third of the book if I was far more invested in their love. I think I finished it just because so many friends told me the second one is better. I’ll give it a shot though because I do love the world and think the story has potential. Plus I need to know what happens with the King who wants to kill the human world.
