Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.
5/5 Stars

This Lightning Thief, is such an iconic book that doesn't need me to sing praises in order to raise it up, but I felt like I needed to revisit this series after the Netflix series came out. As an admission, I have never finished this entire series. So revisiting this series through an audio book is allowing me to finally complete this series and actually see what I have missed out on all these years.

Now for the Lightning Thief directly, I remembered that I loved this book back in middle school, and I am very happy that even though I have grown I have not lost my love for this book. This nostalgia trip gave me a lot of reasons to smile, from the middle school humor to being on the edge of my seat for the crazy situations that happened. Also rereading this book allowed me to pick up a lot more foreshadowing of the plot now that I kind of knew what happened.

I don't think I have anything bad to say about this book. The pacing felt really good, and as a Greek mythology fan felt like this story kept the integrity of Greek tales but still added more to the stories to put it in a modern tale. Of course putting Olympus in the United States could be weird for some folks, but to me it felt modern, fun and great for a middle school fantasy.

As for the audio book, I felt like the voice actor did a great job sounding like a middle school student without it being distracting. I could feel like I was listening to Percy themselves throughout the story, and felt like they also did a good job making all the voices sound like how they would in Percy's head. I think that audio books are also a great way to share this book with younger readers too, so maybe a good one to play for the kiddos in the car!

I can't see a reason why someone shouldn't at least try this book. This is a good book for many readers and I think it is a great place to start for fantasy in general for any reader. So if you are looking for a fun time I would highly recommend bringing this book into your reading rounds!
