The Ascendant by Drew Chapman

3.0

The Ascendant is a different take on a political thriller - instead of missiles and bullets, the battles are fought with internet worms and stock market disruptions. I was interested to see how the author played up a grass-roots revolution in China, with US hackers disseminating information.

Garrett Reilly, the hero of the story, however, failed to appeal to me. He is way too enamored with the f-word, and too immature for my tastes. None of the other characters inspired my allegiance, either.

This book overall was just okay. 3 stars.
