A Praying Life: Connecting with God in a Distracting World by Paul E. Miller

4.0

Probably the first book I have read that is almost exclusively focused on prayer. And I am glad I started here. Paul E. Miller describes prayer in simple to understand yet deeply profound language. What I loved most about it is how much he focuses on Jesus, and the lifestyle of prayer that he modelled. Jesus was one with his Father, and shared everything with him in prayer. Paul, tells of how his own prayer life has helped him to become aware of the Father and to see God weaving his story into Paul's life. He also shares practical tools, that aid the believer in cultivating a regular rhythm of prayer.

I was surprised that much of the book is devoted to the acceptance of suffering and how God might use it to deepen our inner beings and mature our relationship with him. I think this ended up speaking to me most powerfully, due to the loneliness and isolation I experienced during lockdown (Covid-19). God used it to speak into my situation and to help me see how, through suffering, he has been weaving his story into my life.
