The Co-op by Tarah DeWitt

4.0

The story
LaRynn and Deacon have each inherited half shares in a house on the each in Santa Cruz from their two grandmothers. They spent summers there together as teens but split up when there was misunderstanding and confusion about their relationship. Now Deacon is able to fix up the place and LaRynn has access to a trust fund if she is married. With the forced proximity of the house while they are renovating to sell, the two eventually face their personal and shared demons.

My thoughts
After reading Tarah DeWitt’s Funny Feelings, and seeing praise for The Co-Op, I don’t think any of the hype is undeserved. The characters in this beautiful story are tinged with loss, regret, guilt and feelings of inadequacy, lives that haven’t gone to plan, but underneath all of that are two sweet and kind personalities that have each other’s best interests at heart. There are lots of rich descriptions, deep personalities and wonderful supporting friends, all set with a lot of music in the backdrop. It’s a goodie.
