Bossypants by Tina Fey

4.0

I feel the need to preface this review by admitting that I do not particularly care for 30 Rock and that I was starting to dislike Fey a couple of years ago when it seemed like everyone in the media was declaring her the funniest person EVER and constantly shoving her down my throat (Entertainment Weekly, I'm looking at you). Despite these feelings, I have always found Fey to be amusing and talented, and thought that this would be a fun read. Boy, was it ever! Fey's writing covers a massive range of topics, from her humble beginnings all the way to her current status juggling a personal and professional life. I particularly enjoyed the peek behind the curtain of the entertainment industry, and the chapter devoted to the perfect storm of Oprah Winfrey's guest appearance on 30 Rock, her multiple appearances impersonating Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live and her daughter's birthday party was a real standout and a great example of how insanely busy and surreal her life is. After reading this book, I have a tremendous amount of respect for Fey and appreciate the fact that her work has opened doors for other female comediennes.
