My Year of Saying No by Maxine Morrey

Did not finish book. Stopped at 39%.
Give up reading this after 214 pages and no plot development.

For me, the beginning looks promising, the premise and plot are pretty unique (reminds me a bit of Jim Carrey's Yes Man), and the main character, Charlotte, and her love life, where she has this cute little crush on her co-worker and tries not to make it obvious, kind of pique my interest.

I love how Maxine makes Charlotte stay true to her mission of being assertive even when she has to face her own friends and family. From saying yes to everything to saying no and becoming her own person, I kind of admire Charlotte's character development.

But then, 200+ chapters in, we're stuck in Charlotte and Seb's ridicolously slow and boring—almost torturous to read—love journey. I thought at first this was going to be some cute denial turn into acknowledgement that I'm in love with that person, but nope, all they do is repeat "you know, we're co-workers, co-workers don't fuck each other, they don't date each other" basically in almost every convo they had (I half blame this on Charlotte because she literally applied her mission to her love life too).

There's no acknowledgement in here. Just straight-up denial.

So sorry I have to put this in my "never to read again" file.
