Blackwater Falls by Ausma Zehanat Khan

4.0

This thriller tackles much more than the typical murder mystery. Interwoven throughout the suspenseful plot are relevant social issues that plague both the characters and many people living in America today. By marrying the classic detective novel with elements of social justice Khan sets Blackwater Falls apart in the genre and adds layers of interest. This articulate and empathetic author brings a raw humanity to issues that many of us have never had to experience, but should still be paying attention to.

I would recommend this book to all fans of the thriller genre, but especially those looking to see Muslim and immigrant representation that steers clear of tired stereotypes.
