The Prince of Mist by Carlos Ruiz Zafón

4.0

This exceeded my expectations, especially for a first novel. Carlos Ruiz Zafón crafts a satisfyingly sinister, spooky, suspenseful twist on a Faustian tale that is simultaneously a coming-of-age novel with the sense of melancholy I've typically only experienced in Spanish (language) magical realism. Prince of Mist definitely bears all the characteristics that Zafón ultimately perfected in The Shadow of the Wind.
