Unthinkable: Trauma, Truth, and the Trials of American Democracy by Jamie Raskin

challenging dark emotional informative reflective sad slow-paced

4.75

I very shallowly knew of Jamie Raskin and that his son died not long before the January 6th insurrection, but holy cow. I definitely didn't know how intelligent and progressive his son was or even that he killed himself. It's extra gutting because you can imagine Tommy would've been devastated by that day and would've had so much to say about it all and probably would've helped his dad a ton with the preparations. I also learned a lot about the 2020 election, what all went down on 1/6, and how everything went down in Congress afterwards. I admire Jamie's optimism, but all I see is a bunch of us vs. them, unwilling to work together nonsense, and I truly don't know how the country is supposed to move on when it was clearly shown that it's not a big deal if the president of the country who has sworn an oath to protect it can actively insite mob violence against the capitol and get away with it.
