A collection of connected short stories that forms into a communal novel of sorts in the Cambodian community of California. When I'm reading or listening to music, the atmosphere of the work is a key part that I pay attention to as much as the actual events. This work nails the atmosphere. It's not pleasant; it's tired, dazed like sitting in a hot car, a bit desperate, and world-weary. But that's clearly exactly what the author wanted, and it translated.
